Things wrong with the Netflix UI

  1. Some shows don’t have episode titles, but they have to be there for some reason? So you get Squid Game, Episode 1, “Episode One”.
  2. Subtitles are really inconsistent. On Shameless they’re monospaced and huge for some reason.
  3. It’s so fiddly to navigate with a mouse. You have to move just right to get the popup menus to appear and click on them.
  4. Search never admits the show isn’t there, it gives you other similar shows which are nothing to do with your search string.
  5. If there’s a show I’m curious about, I want to watch the trailer, but it’s way down at the bottom after all the seasons and episodes.
  6. You can’t do thumbs down on future items; Netflix, I am never going to watch a Ricky Gervais standup special and that’s useful information to you, even if it’s a Ricky Gervais standup special which is coming soon.
  7. Sometimes the Top Picks are just empty for some reason.
  8. There’s no easy way to say you’re not going to keep watching something; even if you give it a thumbs-down it sticks around.
  9. That little red line telling me there’s a little bit of the show left because I didn’t go all the way to the end; but that’s because you let me skip to the next episode!
  10. I watched 50 episodes of something, then went back to one particular episode to check something out, and now Netflix thinks I’m back on episode nine and want to go from there.
